Intercultural training
Whatever your background, you have certainly experienced the culture shock that can be a new way of thinking. So many differences in management style, customs and codes !
What to do to avoid communication barriers and misunderstandings ?
How to navigate intelligently through these obstacles that end up causing stress and even affecting the productivity of your business ?
This is where the intercultural dimension comes into play. Understanding others also means knowing ourselves: first, looking closely at our culture, formed by our values and beliefs, acquired in our country and our family environment, but also at every step of our personal and professional journey. Then, it is helpful to observe how our culture interacts with that of others, accept differences and build bridges.
The intercultural approach will allow you to take a step back from your own culture and open the doors of your mind to better understand other cultures either national, professional and organisational.
The challenges of interculturality
Developing a company's full potential is directly linked to the ability of its managers to master cultural differences, whether social, organizational or regional, within their teams. These differences (relationship towards authority, degrees of individualism or the management of uncertainty, among other dimensions) can lead to incomprehension and conflicts at all levels of the hierarchy, with disastrous consequences for productivity within the company.
We support managers and directors in order to enable them to understand and face cultural shocks that can jeopardize the health of their organization and hinder their professional development.
Some numbers :
-
28 billion euros: losses estimated for 2010 due to poor communication between employees (sample of 400 companies with more than 100,000 employees in the United States and the United Kingdom). Average losses per company are estimated at 46 million euros.
-
19,000 €: estimated annual cost for the year 2010 per worker due to drop in productivity directly linked to communication barriers.
Cultural shocks occur in a variety of contexts:
-
for expatriates who are discovering a new country and its culture;
-
within multicultural teams or working internationally;
-
in mergers and acquisitions, when entire teams are absorbed into an entity that is guided by a different culture;
-
during negotiations with strong commercial stakes;
-
within projects involving cross-functional teams confronting different professional cultures

Our approach
We are convinced that one of the keys to intercultural synergies is emotional intelligence. If one is able to improve one's skills in this area, it becomes easier to identify and adapt to different cultural paradigms.
Our approach is to combine multidimensional analysis of cultures with an assessment of emotional intelligence (EI), using the most reliable test, the Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test (MSCEIT ™). In addition, Philippe Rosinski's table of cultural orientations allows us to take stock of each person's positioning on scales of values and behavior, and to demonstrate that instead of representing obstacles, these differences are real opportunities.
This workshop is largely practic oriented, in order to allow participants to quickly apply the learning in the field: role plays, case studies and exercises fill two thirds of this training.
